Buildings are responsible for over 40% of Europe's greenhouse gas emissions. EuroACE believes that through cost effective energy efficiency measures these emissions can be brought under control, bringing significant emissions reductions and cost savings to all Member States. For more information on energy efficiency in buildings click on any of the sub headings below:
EuroACE have commissioned several substantial research projects intended to facilitate effective policy making in this area. Two reports produced for EuroACE by the consultants CALEB are available below:
A presentation by EuroACE on the impact and importance of the European Union's new Directive on Energy Efficiency in Buildings also outlines the importance of building energy efficiency in tackling climate change - showing how the new Directive can help to achieve a step change in building energy efficiency. The EC Inform-Energy article by Andrew Warren, EuroACE's Senior Adviser, emphasises the importance of demand-side measures in achieving that step-change as well as the Directive's cornerstone role in this.
Detailed information on energy efficiency in buildings in each Member State is available from the links below. The first item on the list is a EuroACE-commissioned report entitled "Towards Energy Efficient Buildings in Europe", which sets out for the first time details of the policies being adopted by each European government to improve energy efficiency in buildings. This includes all of the EU25, plus two non-EU countries Norway and Switzerland. Overseen by Rod Janssen, a former senior official at the International Energy Agency, the project report was published in June 2004 and a presentation was given to the European international demand management committee in November 2004:
